The Rule of Law must be respected

Image
The rule of law is fundamental to our society. We expect our government to follow the law scrupulously. The present administration in Washington has no respect for that requirement and is continually breaking the law and forcing others to do so. Rep. Tenney claims to respect this rule, but encourages actions that have agents of the Federal government violating the legal protections of Americans.  Rule of law  is a principle under which all persons, institutions, and entities are accountable to laws that are: Publicly promulgated (known) Equally enforced Independently adjudicated and Consistent with international human rights principles. These words come directly from the U.S. Courts website .  Please visit the web page for more information about the Constitutional basis for the rule of law – it is short and clarifies the intent of our Constitution.   Our elected officials, their appointees, judges, justices and the military all take an oath to uphold the Cons...

We put the country first, and expect the same of our leaders

We have all declared our allegiance to the republic whenever we say the pledge of allegiance. Unfortunately, Rep. Tenney's allegiance lies elsewhere. Her actions don't serve her country or her constituents, but reveal her first allegiance to the president's personal goals.  Members of Indivisible Seneca have a patriotic dedication to this country and feel that it is at risk. We deserve a representative who will act in the interest of the people of the 24 district and of the country. The founding documents of our nation – the Constitution and the Bill of Rights – are what make us a democratic republic, rather than a pure representative democracy.  In a representative democracy – a government without a Constitution - lawmakers are free to establish whatever laws they are able to pass.  Our Constitution and Bill of Rights, however, created inalienable rights for all individuals within the nation that no law can take away.   This is the meaning of a Republic – representa...

...and justice for all.

Justice is the outcome of a legal system that provides safeguards for people accused of criminal behaviors, without regard to their age, gender, ethnicity, religion, background, citizenship or wealth.   These safeguards underpin a judicial system, designed by our founders, that is blind to the biases we, as imperfect individuals, inevitably hold.   A fair judicial system – one that we call “just” – is a system where all accused are entitled to the full protections of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Our representative in Congress, Claudia Tenney, is falling short of supporting these safeguards. She lauds administration actions that deny justice to Americans based on the circumstances of their birth. We need a representative who supports this fundamental American value.
