...and justice for all
This familar line, from our American pledge of allegiance commits us to assuring that justice is available to everyone. The present administration is violating that commitment.
The fourth amendment to the US Constitution, ratified in 1791, states that “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Although the Constitution and its amendments uses the word “citizen” 24 times, it is not used here. Instead, the word used is “people” – a very intentional choice, that extends protections of the Fourth Amendment to citizens and non-citizens alike.
Representative Tenney's frequent demonization of people in her distirict reveals that she does not share this fundamental American value and fails to represent the people of her district.
